Our answers to the questions we are asked the most.

What is StoryCube?

StoryCube is the social storytelling network for children. It’s a safe online environment where kids can practice the age-old skill of storytelling using the technology of today.

Why StoryCube?

Children love stories – and we adults do too! We enjoy spending time together, listening, reading, watching and telling stories. Today’s children also love anything related to computer games, and playing with their friends.

Developed by a technology-minded mom and an elementary school teacher, StoryCube builds on kids’ enthusiasm for stories and playing. StoryCube helps parents and teachers to teach kids how to think creatively, solve problems, use technology, manage projects and work together. And have fun in the process.

Who uses StoryCube?

We designed StoryCube for children ages 7 to 12, but it is open to all ages. Children under the age of 13 may only join with their parents’ or teachers’ approval.

How does StoryCube work?

StoryCube is fun and easy to use.

  • Become a member. Remember: kids 12 and under will need their parents’ approval to join.
  • Create a story!
    1. First, you need an idea: We know that sometimes kids get stuck when coming up with an idea for a story. We didn’t want that to stop them so we created StorySprouts, a bunch of idea-generating games. We’ve started with just a few games, with many more to come.
    2. Second: Ask your friends to help you create your story or go solo.
    3. Third: Want help creating your story characters, setting, situations or solutions? If so, follow the Story Map. Or, if you know how you want to create your story, choose Free Form.
    4. When you’re done, publish your story online and share it with your friends, family, class or other StoryCube members.
  • Ask for feedback and let others know what you like about their stories!
  • Create another story!

Can stories be printed?

We don't have this feature working just yet. In the interim, you can print the story pages from the story review page. In the near future, we will provide options to publish hard cover and paperback versions of stories too.

Are there advertisements on StoryCube?

No: we wanted to create a safe environment for kids with little distraction, so there is no third party advertising on storycube.com.

How much does it cost to join StoryCube?

StoryCube is offering a FREE 2011-2012 School Pilot Program of the website to K-5 classrooms and home school students. In return, we ask you to provide us feedback from both teacher and student perspectives so we can continue to innovate and design storycube to best fit the online writing needs of teachers and students.
